CIEL calls for nominations for Innovative Community Organization and Community Entrepreneur Awards
Nelson - The Centre for Innovative and Entrepreneurial Leadership (CIEL) is calling for nominations for its annual Recognition Awards for the Central Kootenay. The Awards recognize the most ˜Innovative Community Organization and top Community Entrepreneur and are again co-sponsored by Community Futures of Central Kootenay and CIEL.
2008 marks the 5th year it has recognized the outstanding achievement in entrepreneurship and innovation in the Central Kootenay.
With a changing economy, it's more important than ever for individuals, organizations and communities to use innovative and entrepreneurial skills and attitudes to adapt and thrive, says Mike Stolte the Executive Director of CIEL.
Finalists and winners will be honored at a special Awards dinner on October 22, 2008. Nominations will be accepted until September 15, 2008 for these awards:
Innovative Community Organization: A not for profit, organization, corporation, co-operative or public sector institution in the Central Kootenay area, that supports innovative community based approaches to community economic development and/or assisting entrepreneurs or small business development. Examples could be innovative approaches to stimulating/enhancing entrepreneurial development, innovative community projects or planning that builds the capacity of the community, etc.
Community Entrepreneur: The individual who displays the attributes of an entrepreneur in creating a better community. Those attributes are seeing opportunities where others do not, creating positive networks, persevering against all odds, and building a positive, sustainable community.
Last year's recipient for the Innovative Community Organization Award was the Roots Music Society (Nakusp Music Fest). David Everest (Kootenay Co-op Radio) received the award for Community Entrepreneur.
CIEL is a Canadian centre of excellence in community, entrepreneurial and economic leadership. CIEL provides tools, training and innovative solutions, allowing communities and organizations to realize their potential. In the past year, Nelson-based CIEL has worked in Australia, Ontario, Manitoba and BC and using its tools for communities; the Business Vitality Index, the Community Vitality Index, the Communities Matrix and the Leading Communities training program.

Completed nomination packages must be received by September 15, 2008.
