The BVI fosters coordinated action in communities that supports their unique needs. CIEL believes that communities have an inborn ability to harness their untapped energy to lead and create change. This ability, combined with the BVI process, provide communities with the opportunity to create innovative, targeted strategies to help solve their local business challenges.
Strategies undertaken by BVI communities range from developing a downtown revitalization strategy, to community rebranding, to identifying and creating new opportunities for young entrepreneurs, to solving a “leakage” problem by creating a buy-local campaign, to creating a community foundation. Realistic solutions are selected by the community through an effective CIEL-facilitated Focus Session that takes into account the community’s energy, resources, leadership and timing.
According to a follow-up poll taken by CIEL staff, among the communities which engaged in a BVI process, more than 90% of them reported success in carrying out actions identified in their BVI in the 2 years following the process.
